Testing the Nikon P90
These photos were taken at the Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City, Colorado. Except for sharpening and cropping the photos are as shot in the camera. The headphones were taken in the macro focus mode.
The shot of the bathroom was taken without flash or indoor lighting. Only the small amount of light coming in through the window in the living room of the apartment was available. The camera was hand held. I posted these photos to provide samples of the cameras capabilities without boring people with trivial details such as exposure settings.
I use a D80 but bought this camera as a gift and wanted to familiarize myself with it so I could help the recipient use it later. I like this camera a lot and think the person who will be using it is going to also.
I paid $400 for the P90. It uses an Li-ion rechargeable battery and comes with one battery and a charger for it. I purchased an extra battery for $39. These batteries have a long life. When comparing prices between cameras it’s important to consider the accessories that come with the camera. A battery charger and Li-ion battery is a nice in-the-box addition to a purchase. Just the fact that this camera uses a good battery instead of AAs is a big bonus.
The camera focuses fairly fast and accurately. Lag time between photos is very good, especially for a non-DSLR camera. The zoom range on the 24X lens is incredible. In the photos on this page, the large close up of the mountain is a photo of a mountain about 60 miles from where I was standing. The headphones, which are about 1/2 inch wide, were taken from a distance of about 2 inches.
If you want to ask me anything else about the camera, just leave a comment.
